[ It's the sound of footsteps behind him that has Lucius half turning in front of the faded window of one of the Diagon Alley shops that butts up against the entrance of Knockturn Alley. His own robes are dark and hooded, but the hood is pushed back now, revealing sleek blond hair as he watches Remus step out of the Alley.

His hood is still raised, naturally, but Lucius can still make out a few features underneath. Enough to make an educated guess who is interestingly emerging from a section of Wizarding London that is not exactly known for the aboveboard.]

A curious place for you to be, I would think.

[ He remembers Remus Lupin as a smart Gryffindor, a several years below him at Hogwarts; he remembers some of his juniors in Slytherin picking on him - and Peter Pettigrew - and Sirius Black and the Potter boy immediately coming to his defense. Those things alone do not exactly make Remus remarkable.

But then, he's also a registered werewolf, and that makes him more notable.]

Is there something to accuse you of, Mr. Lupin?

[The moon will be full that night, he thinks. Remus must be in an interesting mood from that. For a moment he considers attempting charm - they are supposed to cultivate more to the Ministry's side, in this time when minority opposition is growing more vocal, but then...even clearly poor and without resources, Lupin isn't likely to fall for it. No, there are better candidates.]
malificence: (how fascinating)

[ A faintly amused look isn't likely what most people expect of a reference to unwitting transformations, but then Lucius would hate to consider himself anything like most people. He can also recognize an avoidance tactic when he hears one. But truthfully, he doesn't have anything to hold Remus on, or the authority to do so. He didn't take the auror qualifying exams, after all, even if he'd had the NEWTs for it. ]

I daresay you do. No, I would not want to keep you out too late, Mr. Lupin.

[ All sorts of trouble with that, after all, and Lucius suspects he'd find it only briefly amusing. ]
